Kobo awarded the 2024 Platinum Seal by Candid: Our commitment to transparency and accountability
We are pleased to share that Kobo has earned Candid’s 2024 Platinum Seal of Transparency, their highest recognition for transparency and accountability for nonprofit organizations. This prestigious seal, granted to fewer than 1% of the nearly 2 million charities in the United States, underscores Kobo’s dedication to openly sharing information about our goals, programming, and impact with our user community, partners, and supporters.
Candid, formerly GuideStar, is a leading funding information provider for the nonprofit sector, with an extensive database on grantmaking foundations, charitable funders, and nonprofits. The platform provides detailed data about nonprofit organizations to help funders and donors make informed contributions. To support the efforts of nonprofits, Candid offers capacity strengthening and skill building resources with a focus on effective fundraising, in addition to in-depth information about funding sources.
To earn the Platinum Seal, Kobo has actively shared documentation and details about our finances, governance, strategic priorities, programming, and outcomes for key metrics on our Candid profile. This transparency demonstrates our dedication to being fully accountable to our funders, donors, and global KoboToolbox user community. Making this information publicly available and accessible is key to ensuring our funding partners and community can contribute to our mission and support our work with confidence.
“Receiving the Candid Platinum Seal was an important milestone for Kobo. As a nonprofit, we rely on grants, external funding, donations, and service contracts to financially sustain our work. We want our supporters to know that every contribution to Kobo directly funds the development of KoboToolbox and helps us to provide more resources for our users, including ensuring that nonprofit organizations continue to have free access to KoboToolbox, especially those in low- and middle-income countries.” - Tino Kreutzer, Kobo’s Chief Operating and Innovation Officer
As we celebrate this accomplishment, we also look towards the future of KoboToolbox. This achievement not only highlights Kobo’s ongoing commitment to promoting openness, accessibility, and accountability in the nonprofit sector, it is also a testament to our continued dedication to our mission. We believe that accessible and innovative technology can transform the work of nonprofit organizations worldwide, enabling us all to deliver more effective and sustainable support for the communities we serve. Together, we can take the next steps to expand access to data technology, empowering nonprofits around the world to drive inclusive and meaningful change.
